Authorship Policies for the Journal of International and Prospective Studies
At the Journal of International and Prospective Studies, we adhere to the principles of authorship. Our policies are designed to ensure fair and transparent credit for all authors involved in the research. Below are the detailed guidelines for authorship:
Criteria for Authorship
To qualify for authorship, individuals must meet all the following criteria:
-
Substantial Contributions: Authors must have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data. This includes substantial involvement in drafting the research plan, conducting experiments, or performing data analysis.
-
Manuscript Drafting and Revising: Authors must have been involved in drafting the article or revising it critically for important intellectual content. This ensures that all listed authors have contributed to the development and refinement of the manuscript.
-
Approval of Final Version: Authors must approve the final version of the manuscript to be published. This step confirms that all authors are satisfied with the content and agree with the findings and conclusions presented.
-
Accountability: Authors must agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Note: Meeting requirements 2 and 3 should not disqualify those who have made substantial contributions to the research. All contributions must be acknowledged appropriately, and authors should refer to the submission guidelines for specific requirements. Some journals use CRedIT taxonomy to provide greater transparency to individual contributions to the research.
Author Roles
-
Submitting Author: The author who submits the manuscript to the journal submission system is referred to as the “submitting author.” This individual is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate authors are listed and that their contact and affiliation information is accurate.
-
Corresponding Author: The submitting author may designate a co-author as the corresponding author with their consent. The corresponding author assumes responsibility for all communication with the journal and acts as the main point of contact during and after publication.
Group Authorship
The Journal of International and Prospective Studies supports the inclusion of group authorship, such as those from working groups or consortia. Group authors should be highlighted on the title page, and those who can take responsibility for the work should be clearly listed as authors. Members of the group who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately in the acknowledgements section.
Author Affiliations
Each author’s primary affiliation should be the institution where the research was conducted. If an author changes affiliation during the research period, the institution where the majority of work was conducted should be listed. Authors may also list their current affiliation by adding a note in the article, ensuring accurate representation. Affiliations must be verified and cannot be altered post-publication.
Authorship Changes
Any changes to the author list, including additions, deletions, or changes to the corresponding author, must be approved by all listed authors through the completion of an authorship change form. Incomplete forms will be returned, and changes for inappropriate reasons may result in rejection of the submission. No changes to authorship are permitted after the acceptance of a submission.
Deceased and Incapacitated Authors
If a co-author dies or becomes incapacitated before submission or during the peer-review process, the remaining authors should seek approval from the next of kin or legal representative to retain their contribution. If a deceased author was the sole author, permission from the next of kin or legal representative is required for publication.
Authorship Disputes
The Journal of International and Prospective Studies is not in a position to adjudicate authorship disputes. If an authorship dispute arises during peer review, the manuscript will be placed on hold until resolution. Unresolved disputes will result in the manuscript being returned to the authors. Post-publication disputes will be referred to the institution where the research was conducted or the corresponding author's institution for investigation.
These policies aim to uphold the integrity and transparency of the publication process, ensuring that all contributors receive appropriate credit for their work.
